DIY Pin Cushion

I didn’t have a pin cushion and I couldn’t justify buying one. So, I decided to make one with some scraps left from the sleep sacks I made Avie.

I started with a circle…

Then I started some large basteing stitches with an embroidery needle. I only used that because it was larger. If you don’t have one, any hand sewing needle would work.

Then, I pulled it tight as I worked around the outside.

Once you’ve made it all the way around, pull the threads tight so it forms a cup. Don’t pull it all of the way closed, though. We have to stuff it first!

Look at all of that stuffing! Those are just scraps of fleece from cutting the sleep sack pattern.

Then you fill the ball with the stuffing. You want it pretty full, but not over stuffed, or your pins may not go in easily.

Next, pull the threads nice and tight to close it. You can tie it, or knot it, or any combination of securing it. I kinds just made some knots and sewed it back through a couple of times.

Ta-da! Pin cushion!
