I know, I know… it’s almost Christmas, but bear with me! Last year we somehow managed to mess up our every-other-year plan to split the holidays because Ansen’s parents moved from Topeka (2 hours from Wichita and my family) to Little Rock (7 hours from Wichita). Instead of going to my family’s for Christmas eve and then his for Christmas day… we had to pick one. Luckily we picked mine, because it was the last Christmas eve party at my great grandma’s. To make up for this, we did Thanksgiving and we will do Christmas with Ansen’s family, with an early Christmas with my family. Next year, we hope to do one at one family and one at the other… this just gets more and more complicated.
Anyways, we don’t get to see one set of Ansen’s grandparents very often, so we were privileged to spend some time with them. It was really fun for them to get to see Avie. We even got a picture of the 4 generations.
We had the traditional turkey and sweet potatoes and pumpkin pie, etc… but we also had prime rib! I’m not a big beef person, so I wasn’t quite as excited as everyone else. But seriously, who actually likes the turkey? I know it’s traditional, so we eat it, but wouldn’t you rather just have a big piece of beef?! For Ansen, I think he’d choose that over just about anything. Except maybe pasta. Unless he could have both.
While we were out “Black Friday” shopping (in a small town in the middle of the afternoon, not quite the crazy you typically expect), Great Grandma Reta (aka Gigi) decided to splurge a little on the sweet baby and picked up this adorable outfit.
It comes with a hounds tooth bubble coat as well, but I didn’t make her wear it for this particular picture.
Since I’ve been doing so much sewing lately, I was showing off some of my work to Gigi and bemoaning the fact that I had to return the serger to mom-in-law… well, one thing led to another, and Gigi graciously let me borrow hers! And then she sent a whole box of thread with it… and some fabric… and a pattern… and probably some other stuff I haven’t found yet… I am so blessed!
As soon as Christmas is over, my next project will be turning our office into a workable sewing/office/guest room. Since I have this wonderful gift, I want to use it, but having sewing stuff set up on the kitchen table all the time is driving Ansen crazy (and to some extent, me too). Until then, the kitchen is work central. I have a few new things to share. But that must wait for another post!
