Virginia Tech

Things like the shooting in Blacksburg, VA really put things into perspective. All of the petty homework assignments, squabbles with other people, stress about finals…

I think it’s tragic that debates started even yesterday about the need for stricter gun control or about the lack of response by Virginia Tech security. I’m sure all of that will be reviewed in due time…but right now, everyone’s hurting…and everyone just needs to shut up and show some of that respect.

I can be so superficial and immature at times. Then I watch NBC and see a dad interviewed about his dead daughter…talking about the last time that he saw her and how much joy she brought to his life. What’s he going to do when he finally gets to see her body one last time? “I’m going to kiss her,” he said.

I couldn’t help but be moved to tears after watching that. The father said they were lucky – they visited her just this last weekend and got to see her one last time. Can you imagine? I can think of so many people that I couldn’t bear to lose or be lost to. I love Amandria, my mom, dad, Arielle, Marshall, Maddie, my roomates here at school, friends like Matthew and Abe…I can’t imagine losing any of you for forever.

How could a person be so cold that they would brutally murder 32 innocent people? That’s a question for God someday, I suppose…
