Honey Garlic Chicken

I found this recipe for Honey Garlic Chicken on Pintrest. She preps this ahead of time and throws in the freezer. However, since I just went shopping and have been freezing a ridiculous amount of stuff and no longer have room for anything in the freezer, I chose to mix it the day of. So, Friday, I mixed up the sauce, put 4 chicken breasts in the crock pot and covered it with the sauce and forgot about it. Don’t you love how you can do that with the crockpot? Then it’s ready when you are!

Here’s the breakdown:

$4.67 – 4 chicken breasts $1.77 per pound
$.09 – 3 cloves of garlic $.89 for 3 heads, this is about 1/3 of a head
$.25 – 1/3c soy sauce
$.18 – 2/3c ketchup
Free – 1/4c honey, someone gave us
$5.19

We added 2 cups of cooked rice (which is 1 c. uncooked for calculation purposes), which added a cost of about $.23. To feed 4, you would probably need 2 c. uncooked, which would be around $.45.

For just the two of us, the cost was $2.79 total (enough for 2 people, including the rice), but since I made 4 chicken breasts, which gave us left overs, it was a bit more. The technical break down for dinner only means this puppy is under $3! Next time, I might make it in my “dip” sized crockpot with only 2, then it would really be under $3.
