Apparently, I have some catching up to do. I forgot to post Friday’s dinner and then we had a busy weekend. So here goes:
Avie got to try out her new cart seat cover. It’s big and fluffy and she had a blast not being in the carseat!
Sunday all of our family was in town for various reasons: Ansen and his dad were speaking at church about money management and how to be good stewards of what is given to us. My parents were here to move my sister in at JBU. And some other family came because we thought it would be a great time to dedicate this little lady to God.
We acknowledge that she is not ours, but a gift from God, and rightfully belongs to Him. Not only that, but we are also dedicating ourselves to being parents who live out an example of what it means to be a true Christ follower, to be like Christ, to offer mercy and grace, as well as discipline and we pray that someday, she too will make the choice to follow Christ.
She was quite the little ham in front of the church, making the pastor “melt,” as he said, and totally got him all jumbled up by making eyes at him!
Now that we’re all caught up… this is what I did today after my parents headed back to Wichita and my sister went to her dorm to unpack:
This is the beginning of a clothes line. I’ve been hearing several people talk about how great it is that they have one and how perfect it has been this summer. So I finally figured out how to make it work. I bought a pack of 2 heavy duty eye-hooks, some clothes line and a carabiner… then I waited. I was worried this would be too difficult or that I would start something I couldn’t finish, but today I decided to try it. To start, I screwed the eye hooks into my fence. I was shooting for the main posts, but I don’t think they went in that far. Once they got too far in to turn with my hand, I got this handy screwdriver and used it as a lever to twist them in.
After attaching the eye-hook to the fence, I tied a knot. I don’t know much about knot tying, but… I figured it out. I’m sure if you googled it, you could find a better knot.
After attaching the second one on the other side, I tied a slip knot in the rope and hooked the carabiner through. Make sure to tie your slip knot the right direction, or it will slip off. It wasn’t quite tight enough, so I tied it a little farther in and stretched it to clip. It takes a little muscle, but this is what I ended up with in the corner of my yard:
I tried my first load and only got about half of it up, so I’m going back to get another pack of eye hooks to string a second line with all the extra rope. I can’t decide if I should go below or in front of (parallel) to do my second line, but hopefully it will fit a whole load. It does fit a whole load of pants though, but they were very heavy and I had a harder time keeping them on the line. Guess I need to practice… and maybe tighten it a bit.
The total cost for this project included: clothesline ($2.88), 4 eye screws ($.97 x 2 packs), carabiner ($.96), clothespins ($.97) = $6.75
I obviously haven’t put up the second pack of eye screws to make a second line, but I think we’ll have this up and running by the next time I have to do laundry!
