We are blessed to have so many awesome fathers in our lives. My daddy, Bobby, and Ansen’s daddy, Steve, have shaped us both more than we could ever describe. Then there’s their dads’ and our moms’ dads’. For me (Dri) that’s my dad’s dad, Papa Dale, my mom’s dad Grandad Walt, my dad’s “step” dad, Grandpa Kinny, and my dad’s grandpa, Great Grandad Ted. For Ansen, that’s his dad’s dad, Grandpa Max and his mom’s dad, Grandpa Alden. All those grandpas have had a profound impact on our parents and therefore us… and we think they’re pretty cool guys as well.
But yesterday, the daddy I wanted to honor the most was my awesome husband, Ansen, on his FIRST Father’s Day! So, here’s what we did:
Saturday night I baked his favorite: Berry Pie. Notice the fancy lattice work? It’s because I love him.
He doesn’t know that I snapped this, but he played drums for worship Sunday morning and had to get up at 6:30am… so we took a nap yesterday afternoon. But before that…
Daddy and Avelea played…
Daddy got to try to feed Avelea rice cereal for the very first time…
She’s really not sure what to think of it. And then we had our own lunch:
I was halfway through eating this before I remembered to take a picture… it was that good. Anyways, these are Asian Salmon Burgers on home made buns. I accidentally “burned” one side, but we decided that maybe they’re actually better that way. Kind of like blackened Salmon, which is super yummy.
Then we took a nap. But Avie and I woke up before Daddy, so we worked on this:
Avelea was surprisingly cooperative with the hand print, but fairly oblivious to the fact that I put a marker in her hand to write on the envelope.
Then, after calling our Fathers to tell them what great Dads they are, we headed to Fayetteville, dropped the kiddo off an Auntie & Uncles and went to…
because I had a Living Social deal that was about to expire. It’s “fine mexican cuisine” and it was actually pretty good. We think it must be a little hard to overcome the stigma of mexican food in order to be “fine”, but it’s definitely a nice place and worthy of the category of “fine”.
And we can’t go eat in Fayetteville and miss…
Overall, I think we made Ansen’s first Father’s Day a special one!
