Welp, last week was… weird. First, Tuesday I didn’t have my typical meeting, so Avie and I spent the afternoon grocery shopping and preparing for Wednesday. Wednesday was Field Agent‘s 3rd birthday party (my other, other job) in Fayetteville, so Avie and I planned to attend and meet some of my new co-workers (since I work from home and we only “talk” over Skype). Also, while I was in town, I decided I’d take some dinner to some precious friends who just had a baby.
So I made roasted veggies… oatmeal chocolate chip cookies…
Yum…
And meatball biscuits (which are super yummy and you should try them).
Then I stuck them in my brand new FREEZER (Ok, well, new to me) so they could bake them fresh on the evening they chose to eat them. Story time…
Friday, before we left for Tulsa, I decided to go garage saleing… but there were seriously none. I finally stumbled upon the only one in town and it had all of 4 small tables set up. Normally, I would have skipped it entirely, but I though, “well, this is what I came for. I might as well get out and give it a look.” After looking through some nicknacks, the lady finally said, “We do have an entertainment center and a twin bed inside too.”
Oh, a twin bed, that was worth taking a look at. But the second I walked in, I was bombarded by the smell of smoke. (If you smoke, please take no offense to this, it just makes me physically sick and I cannot be around it.) Thus… the brand new, very gently used mattress of a fairly reasonable price was no longer appealing. After politely telling her that I was really only looking for the mattress and don’t really need the box springs and frame, we returned to the garage where she casually mentions she has a freezer as I’m about to walk away.
What? A why didn’t you mention that in the first place? She wanted $75. After attempting (and failing) to reach Ansen to make sure he was on board, I offered her $50. She eagerly accepted. So I ran home to get Ansen (who was off work so we could go to Tulsa) for his muscles and the van for hauling and we are the proud new owners of a small deep freeze. Which barely fits in our garage. Garage Sale Pro Tip: Put ALL of your salable goods out so people can see them when they drive by! She did have excellent signage up though. So I’ll cut her some slack.
Ok, now where was I? Oh yes, Wednesday I got up early to work a couple of hours before the Field Agent party, because even though it was a work party for this particular job, I still had to get my 4 hours in at some point. They were flexible; it was good. The party was nice and awkward because I knew almost no one, but I bonded with another mom over the commonality of our children’s age. Then we took our yummies to our friends and held the sweet baby boy (Sorry Sara, I really hope I didn’t accidentally share whatever I ended up with!) Once we returned home, I still had a couple more hours to work while Avie slept, but I was beat. I had the hardest time keeping my eyes open while working. Then, of course she woke up and any faint hope of a nap was dashed. But I managed to “go to bed” about 9:30 (which, if you know us… midnight would be a great goal for bedtime) and woke up a few hours later. (At which time, I must point out, I did the daily cleaning task of cleaning switch plates, door knobs and other often touched objects, before Ansen was ready to go to bed… about 1.)
But then the fatigue kept with me all Thursday. No motivation… I tried working on several things through the evening, but got little accomplished. And then it started…
I started feeling really queasy and then I knew it was going to happen. I was going to throw up. You know that feeling where it’s inevitable and there’s nothing you can do about it. You’ve fought it as long as you can and it’s just going to happen. Well, it did. And then again, about every hour or two through most of the night. Maybe it was the lack of sleep and general exhausion from the past few days, or maybe I caught it from someone Thursday…
Friday I was supposed to help a dear friend pack for their move… but there was no way. And, of course, I didn’t really want to share whatever it was that I had with them while they’re trying to move. I tried all morning to take care of Avie by myself, but I literally couldn’t lift my head off of the couch. Pepto was of no help either. By the time Ansen came home for lunch, I knew this was not getting better. And as he was walking out the door to go back, I pretty much begged him (I suppose it would have been better if I would have just come out and asked him) to stay home from work so I could go sleep.
The cookie tossing continued during the afternoon, although by that time, there was nothing at all left to toss. Finally late that evening, I’m not sure if it was the peppermint tea suggestion from my mom, or just the coincidence that this was the end of the heaving, things started settling. I finally sat up for a bit. I even walked around a tiny bit. And I ate something for the first time in 24 hours… AND kept it down.
By morning, things had pretty much settled and I was back at it. I’ve been taking it slow the last couple of days, which is why it’s taken me so long to post, but I think I’m back to 100% now. Seriously. I’d rather be sick in any other way than constant throwing up. Give me a migraine or a sinus infection over this any day. I mean, just saying, if I had to pick one. If you HAD to pick one, what illness would you chose?
