A Few Fun Projects

Just a couple of projects I’ve been working on lately.

I haven’t touched my basil in a few weeks. When I went out to check on it earlier this week, it was out of control! So I made pesto!

The fun part about this is how I chopped it before putting it in the food processor. (If you have a small one like mine, this is a crucial step.) Notice the bowl shaped cutting board with the funky chopper? That was a gift from one set of grandparents from Alaska! It’s a traditional Ulu knife that the Alaskan Native Americans (Inuit maybe? or all of them?) have used for centuries. Anyways, it was really great for chopping and my favorite part is the bowl cutting board! If you’ve ever tried to chop nuts and had them fly across the room, you will understand the convenience. I have now officially filled one and a half ice cube trays with pesto for this winter!

After we got new furiture for our bedroom, we had these shelves (previously our night stands… sad, I know) left with no home. Now I could put them in Avie’s closet for extra shelving storage. They do stack, after all. But, I found a better use for them… at least for now.

I made a desk! I now have a scrapbook/crafting desk in our office. It looks a little different now, a little more full, but I have my own space and it’s not taking up the living room anymore! This is a somewhat temporary solution until we can find an actual desk that will work, but it’s just nice to have a place to put all of that for now. I can’t wait until we can get the office finished up. All of our public areas have been decorated and furnished: living room, kitchen, guest bath. Avie’s room is done until she’s quite a bit older. Currently we’re working on our bedroom (hence the new furniture) and lastly… the office. It’s the catch all and has to serve so many purposes, but we have a plan to use the space wisely. Or at least we are forming one. But more on that another day. For now, I’m going to go make something warm to drink and enjoy this cool, rainy day!
