Christ is Risen

Christ is risen indeed!

We’ve had a pretty great Easter Sunday. We started off the morning by little Avie sleeping in! She woke up happy and we had fun looking at the Easter basket Grandma Kim sent. Avie’s not ready for the candy, but she did notice her bunny!

AND we still managed to make it to church early for the Easter egg hunt/drop! While Avie is not quite old enough to participate, it was fun to watch them drop 7777 eggs from a helicopter.

Unfortunately, I waited until it was too late to take a picture of the actual dropping, so I borrowed this one from someone on Facebook. Crazy to think that this time next year she might actually be able to participate!

Then we came home to a wonderful lunch with my sister! First time I’ve ever made ham. I know nothing about carving, but reheating a fully cooked ham was easy enough and it was delicious.

I don’t know why we celebrate Easter by eating ham. After all, Jesus wouldn’t have eaten ham, it’s not kosher. But then again, we also celebrated by throwing candy filled plastic eggs from a helicopter. Really, what this is all about is that, as a new popular song goes, “Our God’s not dead, He’s surely alive.” God became one of us. He lived life like the rest of us, with one huge difference. He did so perfectly. He took on every part of humanity so that when it came time, He could take on the death of humanity and beat it. He died, just like the rest of us will at some point. But the crazy thing is that He didn’t stay dead, because he broke death. He made it possible that we can have new life, if only we accept Him as a stand in for our broken lives.
