Book Review: The Hunger Games

A while back, Dri read the Hunger Games trilogy. She kept mentioning to me that these were books I needed to read, but I wasn’t fully convinced that I had the time or the interest. When the movie came out to theaters, she told me she wanted to go see it, and I agreed to go. The problem was, I’ve always had a “read the book first” approach to movie adaptations. If I was to stick to that, it was time to sit down and at least read the first book of the series.

I dug into The Hunger Games on Sunday evening. I finished it just over four hours later. The next night I cracked open Catching Fire, the second installment. And on Tuesday, I wrapped up the third and final book, Mockingjay. Three books in three days. In my defense, I’ve always been a fast reader. But I suppose it’s rather obvious that the storyline successfully captured my attention.

There’s Always Tomorrow

Since my beautiful little Avelea came into our lives, things have been hectic. Crazy. Scattered. Chaos, really. Like space was before God spoke things into existence. Formless and without structure. So, for my own sanity, I’ve been trying to establish a new normal. Coming up with a routine is difficult, sticking to it, nearly impossible. Some days are better than others. But, luckily, I’ve had some encouragement from one of my new favorite blogs. I’ve started reading daily and found that she has some very helpful tips.

For starters, she’s doing a month long spring cleaning daily task challenge. I haven’t done a single daily task… but I decided to start with the beginning. That’s usually a good place to start, right? Each day’s assignment starts at the beginning: getting dressed. I have to admit, that right there has been a challenge in and of itself…

Christ is Risen

Christ is risen indeed!

We’ve had a pretty great Easter Sunday. We started off the morning by little Avie sleeping in! She woke up happy and we had fun looking at the Easter basket Grandma Kim sent. Avie’s not ready for the candy, but she did notice her bunny!

AND we still managed to make it to church early for the Easter egg hunt/drop […]

Spiders and Yoga

Last year, we had a spider problem. A brown recluse spider problem, to be exact. We had someone come spray and we set glue traps and I haven’t seen any since then…. but they are recluses. Last night, I found one… in the nursery. My first thought was, “Oh God, that’s where my baby sleeps!” Although it was already dead when I found it, all night I had thoughts of worry that she was being bitten in her sleep and that I wouldn’t know about it until it was too late. Finally, I had to say, “Oh God, that’s where my baby sleeps! Please take her in your hand because they’re much more capable of protecting her than mine…
