Today, while putting away groceries, I discovered that my bags of rice take up a ridiculous amount of unnecessary room by laying all over the cabinet. So I went on a quest to find some containers that would maintain their upright shape while storing rice. Initially, I thought tupperware because it would be easier to scoop out a cup or two, but, alas, I have rid myself of all unnecessary tupperware and cannot spare one of my containers because we have exactly the right amount for typical weekly use.
However, while scouring the tupperware/container cabinet, I discovered that I have several glass jars… perfect for standing upright. But they needed a little “sprucing” up.
See, kinda boring.
After searching, “Can you bake sharpie on glass?” to be sure that the pinterest pin wasn’t only for coffee mugs, I decided to try it. I wrote on both of my jars…
Popped them in a 350° oven for 30 minutes…
Meanwhile, the ugly green lids, declaring the contents of these jars “All Natural” “Mushroom” pasta sauce got a make-over with some brushed nickle spray paint I just happen to have in the garage.
When I went to fill them, I realized that throwing away the bags meant losing the directions. I mean, I know how to make rice… but sometimes I forget. And occasionally I’m not the one making it. So… ding, ding, ding, ding… round two. I wrote out the instructions on the back and baked again, for 30 minutes at 350°.
Finally… Ta-Da!
And look, I even have instructions. Have you come up with a solution to a space problem this week? If so, I’d love to hear about it!
This is absolutely brilliant! I hate having the bags in my cupboard, especially after I’ve opened them cause I always manage to spill some every time I move the bag. I’m stealing this for sure!
