So I had a thought yesterday about being an image bearer, and our responsibility to be good stewards of the temple of God… our body. You see, if we bear the image of God, as in we “look” like him, then our bodies are part of that image (Jesus did have a body!). If we’re being good stewards, aka, taking care of the things God has given us, doesn’t it logically follow that we would take good care of our bodies?
Now I’m not saying that I do a good job of this, or that people who don’t are necessarily sinning. I’m just thinking aloud that I should do a better job of taking care of what God has given me. Thus, I should eat more healthy foods. Not start a diet, or deprive myself of the good stuff, but try for more balanced meals, more fresh meat and veggies, less greasy stuff, less processed foods, less boxes, cans or bags of preserved goods.
Like tonight, I was thinking, “hmm, hamburger helper is nice and quick and it’s already 7:30 and I’m starving.” But Ansen said, “we still have a few pieces of steak, what about that with some fresh sauted mushrooms… and we have some instant potatoes.” Then I said, “ooh, and we have asparagus!” All of that took about 20 minutes to prepared… and it at least felt like it was good for us. We had fresh veggies (except the pototes) and fresh meat… and it was pretty evenly balanced. Next time I’m at the store, I’m going to work on getting more fresh ingredients than boxes of pre-made stuff.
