Unmasked

There’s something that’s extremely comforting about being able to reveal who you really are and what you really do to someone else, even if it’s not pretty. Especially if it’s not pretty. I’m reminded of our Spritual Emphasis Week speaker this year, and what he said about approaching the throne of God unmasked – completely real. The thing is, that’s really hard to do, both with God and with others.

Lots of times I like to think I’m completely real with people, but there’s still so much going on inside my head that no one knows about. Think about it. Think about all those thoughts and emotions that run through your brain and that you keep to yourself. Think of all the things that you’ve never been able to tell anyone. There’s so many, you probably wouldn’t be able to tell them all to someone even if you wanted to…there wouldn’t be time!

Is it really possible to be 100% real with someone? I’m not really sure what the answer to that is. I think you can get close. But you have to be careful. Truly being real with someone is, I think, one of the most intimate acts that can happen in a relationship – whether it be with a significant other, friend, family member, or God.

It can be hard to enter in to that type of relationship…to have the humility to open yourself up…but I think it’s definitely desirable.

  1. Here’s a secret–Moms already know everything their kids are thinking. It’s similar to those eyes in the back of our heads! (HaHa)
