TWIRP #1 (UPDATED PICTURE)

*WARNING* This is long. Read at your own risk.

Last weekend was MICE – where the guys all go and ask girls to go do things. (Men Initiate Creative Entertainment). Well, this weekend is TWIRP, which stands for “The Woman Is Required to Pay”. Tonight I had the first of my TWIRP dates, with a group of about six or seven other guys and girls.

We met in the J. Alvin Lobby at 5:00 , and the girls had signs which they taped to our backs (and then taped random one’s to their own) – the trick being that no one knew what was written on their own back. Each girl had the name of a “Disney Princess” and each guy had a prince’s name to match. You then had to find out who you were by asking for clues from other people, and then find your date. I turned out to be Simba, and luckily I found Nala without too much trouble.

Then came the fun part. The girls brought in a huge pile of clothing and we “dressed” our dates. I ended up wearing pink pajama pants that said “Strawberries” on it and a top that said “South Beach”. Boo ya. Then the guys did the girls’ makeup, and the girls did the guys’ hair. I must say my hair didn’t look half bad – spiked all over the place (what else is new) with reddish purple color AND sparkles!!

THEN it was time to go show off our new looks. We had to tie one of our hands to the hand of our date, and then go to the Caf and eat dinner. Or try to eat dinner anyway. And the people stared. We all had a very interesting time of carrying to trays of food with hands tied together, but it was very fun. Fun to do, and fun to laugh at each other struggling as well.

THENNN, we went to the annual Toilet Paper Game!! This is a longstanding JBU tradition. It’s the first home basketball game of the year, and everyone who comes in gets a free roll of TP. Then, when JBU scores their first field goal of the game, everyone launches their TP onto the court (over 1000 rolls – aka A LOT OF TP!), ushering in the new season with the year’s first technical foul. It was quite a sight, and a fun game overall as well – the student section was nutty (insanely loud) and…the defending national champion JBU Golden Eagles won handily over Hillsdale.

After that came the movie The Jerk with Steve Martin. I had never seen the movie before, but had heard my parents quote it countless times. I finally saw it, and now can quote happily along w/ them upon my return for Thanksgiving.

As if we hadn’t done enough, we headed over to the Walker Lounge (open dorm was ending) and played Cranium! My team, consisting of Amy, Melissa, and Evan totally dominated until the very end, when I screwed us over on the last turn by saying “God and I are close buddies” when impersonating Jim Carrey (referencing Bruce Almighty). Apparently God is a proper noun, the use of which is illegal. So we didn’t get the point and then the team right after us won. Oh well.

After that I returned to the dorm room and took a shower to get all the red gunk out of my hair. And now here I sit! What a night eh?? Now…bed. I’m going to try to get up by 1:00 PM tomorrow so I can see Andrew’s rugby game. And tomorrow night? Another TWIRP, baby!

Random News 1) The “Random News” bit is a new feature that you will find at the end of all of Ansen’s posts from now on. Assuming he actually follows through and doesn’t forget. 2) Our flag football team won its 2nd game of the season! AND…it was our playoff game! We beat a team we lost to earlier this year to advance to the semi-finals where we will play the best team in the league and lose by 50 on Monday. 3) I have a really bad grass burn on my hip and on the underside of my forearm from a diving catch I made in aforementioned game. It really hurts. Especially when I take a shower.

  1. Why would you comment just to say “no comment”? I don’t get it. And where is my misspelling? I read it like three times and can’t find it.

  2. Actually, it’s not depressing at all. I didn’t feel like writing and I’m having too much fun to do something I don’t feel like doing. So I said, ‘pshawww to this’ and will now spend my time doing cooler things like playing ball and hanging out with people.

  3. Yeah…so…you, um…kinda…SLEPT THROUGH MY GAME!!!! Not that I’m miffed or anything, I mean it’s not like it was the last home game or that you haven’t been to one yet or anything like that. >p

  4. ansen, after seeing that picture of you all decked out, i must say i am incredibly proud to have you as my brother-suitemate.

    J.Alvin rules!
