Lots of people have posted poetry on their blogs (Thomas being the most recent). I must admit that this is one thing that I have never done. Tonight I feel the need to break that streak and post some words which I hope will be inspiring and meaningful to each and every one of you. I was cleaning out my room today when I found a crumpled piece of paper. It had hung in my locker at school all year long, and after reading it again today I was almost moved to tears (for different reasons than you would expect). In the margin are written the words “Ansen – Awesome Poem!” by some anonymous passer-by in the hallways of CPLS (I think it was Juliana). Anyway, without further ado, I give you “A Really Cool Poem”, written by Ansen Bayer during English class in the second week of school, and inspired both by Mrs. Hanson, who, at the time, was teaching us the different literary tools used in poetry, and Abe Schneider, who was always writing next to me (his stuff was almost as good as mine).
A Really Cool Poem
By Ansen Bayer
This is a wonderful poem
I must say.
If you don’t think so
You stink.
This isn’t a dumb poem
About a fish or a duck,
It is a really cool one
That has some synechdoches.
However I didn’t use various rhymes,
Or even rhymes at all.
Neither did I use a meter,
Because I don’t really write poetry.
Personification, a paradox, and a pun,
all of these are overrated.
But some things like allkiteration
Are even more dumb.
La la la la la,
I’ve run out of things to say.
La la la la la la,
Calooh, Calooh, Cahlay! Hey!
Break it down!
Profound…Lifechanging.
There’s no other way to put it.
::laughs::
Wow, you could give Tennyson a run for his money…
