That’s right. For the first time ever, I am writing to you DURING SCHOOL!! I am currently at the Topeka Public Library “doing a research project” for art history, however senioritis has set in and thus here I am talking to you. Here’s a couple quotes from my day so far:
“I wish my hair was more stylish.” – Abe
“Is he really black?” – Brittany
Now for the conversation of the day:
[Walking through the hall on the way to English class, Ansen and Abe see Jayne.]Ansen and Abe: “Hi.”
Jayne: “Hi.”
[Ansen and Abe close their locker quickly and continue to English class like losers.]
Hmm…other interesting things that happened today. First I had to do devotions for the freshman class (senior leadership thing). Unfortunately, this had completely failed to come across my mind until right about the time I was supposed to go give the devotion. But luckily I busted out some Hebrews 11 and talked about “finishing the race.” But you know, I think freshman have ADD or something. They’re all just sitting there the whole time flirting with each other like junior high kids.
Ok, now for a digression on freshman psychology. See, the guys and the girls can’t sit too close to each other because they don’t want to give themselves away and come off as pretentious. So at one table it’s three guys and the table in front of that it’s three girls. And they alternate like that all the way through the room. See, the key is that you have to be within range, but keep some distance just the same. So then all the girls in the front table turn around to talk to the table behind them. This is where the real stupidity kicks in.
So the guys know the girls are watching and they gotta do something cool, and quick. So of course, like the macho men they are, they act dumb and poke each other in the eye or they put bunny ears up behind each other. And of course they make all-too-obvious glances to check the response of the ladies so they can adjust accordingly.
The girls meanwhile sit up straight in their chairs, crossing their arms and legs and looking very dignified. They watch the boys and giggle occaisionly, or smile and shake their heads.
This of course in turn drives the guys even more crazy to try to please them and it all just gets way out of hand. Now they’re punching each other and wrestling on the floor, the girls just smiling and shaking their heads in apparent disdain.
Meanwhile Ansen is up front trying to give a devotion, and at least three people are listening.
As for the rest of the day…We started out with Great Ideas (moral philosophy) which was almost extremely exciting. Then it was the great conversation with Jayne (see above) and we’re off to English. There I talked to Abe for awhile until Mrs. Hanson told me to shut up. Then she called on me to read the part of the Duke in a Shakespeare play. AN HOUR AND A HALF. That may have been the single most boring thing I have ever done to date.
Well…really there wasn’t too much else. I went to lunch and had a couple chicken fajitas (which were quite good) and then beat Abe and Andrew in a game of 21 that we only played to like 6 because we had to come here. And now I’m here! Supposed to be researching…but not. Why? Well, we’re back to the beginning. It’s senioritis my friend. Senioritis. And it’s a beautiful thing.
Now don’t worry my fans, I will be making another post this evening. This one here is simply provided to give you more enjoyment and delight.
