A Story of a Flaming Truck

Have you ever seen a parked vehicle spontaneously burst into flame?

I hadn’t either, until today.

So I’m at work, and I’m training this new guy, just walking around and showing him where everything is and how to work it. We finish up and we’re heading back over to the clubhouse, when we both look over at the parking lot to see this truck with flames shooting out of the hood. Like it literally just started blazing. No one’s in it or anything, but it’s pouring out smoke. I radio the clubhouse, but they’ve already seen it and called the fire department.

I’ve decided that it would be a bad idea to set my house on fire. It wouldn’t be very funny because by the time the firemen got there it’d be totally gone. It took the fire trucks over ten minutes to arrive. Sorta scary when you think about it, considering I can get to my house to Sports Center in ten minutes. And my house is farther away than the fire station.

But anyway, by the time they arrive this car is totally engulfed, a couple tires have exploded, and everyone’s afraid the whole thing is going to blow. Meanwhile everyone is lined up against the fence watching.

The fire department arrives and they put it out in a couple minutes. All of the sudden this guy runs out there screaming “That’s my car!” He’s all crying and screaming and stuff. Then the fireman smashes in the passenger side window for good measure and they spray water all over the inside.

So the truck was completely destroyed, there’s foamy water and melted metal all over the parking lot, and this guy’s flipping out, because not only did he lose his car, but the police tell him he also has to figure out a way to get the car out of there and put it somewhere. The firemen wash down the surrounding cars to make sure they don’t have gas on them, and they head out.

By far the most exciting thing of my day. Now you know the rest of the story.

  1. See, this is why I always try to park in the shade. You never know when your car’s going to be the victim of harmful UV rays from the sun and spontaneously combust.
