Lots of people have been asking about the lyrics to the tribute song I wrote for graduation, so…here they are! The bridge and chorus are repeated again after each verse, and after the third verse there is a key change and the chorus is sung twice. I haven’t gotten around to writing down the piano part, but if you want to learn it I’m sure I could teach it to you sometime. (In case you were wondering, I used my keyboard because I wrote the music before I put words to it, and when I added the words it was way too high to sing. I just used the automatic transpose thing on my keyboard instead of re-learning the piano part in a different key.) As you can see, the only thing it lacks is a title. I’ve thought about it for a while and haven’t come up with anything yet. Ideas?
Perhaps I’ll put up the lyrics to my other songs in the future…especially on those nights where I have nothing good to talk about. Oh wait. That’d be every night.
Verse 1:
It was eighteen years ago,
That you gave up your liberty.
And I cried and I screamed,
But you saw something in me.
And it was fifteen years ago,
When I finally found my feet,
But when I’d go one step to far,
You were always there to catch me.
Bridge:
But as I’ve reached the now I cannot
Explain how bittersweet this moment is.
But before another word is heard here,
I just want to say…
Chorus:
I want you to know,
I want you to see,
A certain something,
I have always loved you.
For all that you do,
For all that you are,
You’ve never been far,
You have always loved me.
Verse 2:
And just ten short years ago,
I wouldn’t get picked for either team,
I’d bring my shattered ego home
And you would always comfort me.
Who could forget five years ago,
The words that poured out of my lips,
“I hate you mom, I hate you dad,”
But you knew I never meant it.
Verse 3:
Well now it’s finally now,
And I’m glad that things worked out.
I just don’t know how I feel,
Am I scared or excited?
But don’t worry mom and dad,
With your help I’ve made it through,
I just pray I’ve let you see
How much I love you.
You doin’ that thing you do
Breakin’ my heart into a million pieces
Like you always do
And you don’t mean to be so cruel
Never even knew about the heartache
I’ve been goin’ through
I wrote that
Yeeeaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh!
Good song!
Oh…
row row row your boat gently down the stream…
I wrote that!
Ansen, that song was beautiful, and you guys did an awesome job!
For those of us who haven’t heard this “amazing” song, you should put it on your audio post on Wednesday. I want to hear it!
Well Jess, if you would have come to my graduation you wouldn’t have this problem.
My problem is how am I supposed to play the piano and sing into my cell phone and make it all come through? You might have to wait for the “live” version sometime.
