Wednesdays are loooong days. I’m not a fan.
Cinderella Man, however, is a pretty good movie. At least…the last half is. I watched that half w/ my parents tonight.
So apparently I have to go in and get tested to see if I have this hereditary disease that my cousin has called Marfan Syndrom. It seems I have most of the characteristics of it – very tall and slender build, abnormally long fingers and toes, loose joints, nearsightedness, all that stuff. It can be a life threatening disease…but if you’re diagnosed when you’re young and stuff, usually life expectancy is about the same as a normal person, so even if I do have it shouldn’t be that big of a deal. The major concern is the aorta …often times people with Marfan either experience aortic aneurysm (enlargement) or dissection (tearing). I’d have to get tests on a regular basis to keep track of the health of my heart.
One sad thing is often times people with Marfan aren’t supposed to play sports and stuff, so that wouldn’t be very cool. If I do have it that might explain a couple things though. Apparently people w/ Marfan tend to put weight on their heels instead of towards the front of their feet. That could explain why one of my toes is all curled under and weird, and why my feet have been hurting alot recently (other than that I stand up all the time) and maybe even why I get shin splints so badly when running on hard surfaces.
Anyways…I suppose we’ll see what happens with that. Time for bed.
I know you’ve kinda told me about this before… but you didn’t seem concerned about it. It’s a little unnerving to read about it on your blog, though. Will you call me sometime tomorrow? Please? Hanging out with Ames make me miss you even more!
My husband and daughter have Marfan syndrome, and there is a foundation if you need help. Btw, if you have it, one of your parents and 1 of their siblings has it–it is a dominant trait…
